Happy Friday! TGIF, as they say. Everyone always says that and I feel like I can never relate to their excitement, seeing as I work at a restaurant on the weekends. Oh well, Happy Friday anyways. That was a bit of a tangent, but anyways, this week we’re talking about snacks!

I feel like there is some bad energy surrounding snacking. Everyone always thinks snacking is bad, but in reality, I ENCOURAGE snacking! Eating snacks throughout the day helps keep your hunger and blood sugar level, so that you aren’t getting to your meal and so incredibly starving that you just overeat anyways.

Now when I say I encourage snacking, we’re not talking about chips and candy, we’re talking about nutritious snacks that actually nourish your body. That means high protein, good complex carbs, fiber, and healthy fats. Eating a bag of chips isn’t going to do anything for your body, but eating a apple and peanut butter, that will boost your energy, satisfy your hunger, and maybe even curb a craving.

So this week I’m sharing some of my favorite snacks, most of which take little to no effort, and can be carried pretty much anywhere!

 

  1. String Cheese

I hadn’t had a cheese stick for such a long time, until I recently started eating them again, and they make a great snack! All you need is somewhere to keep them cool, but other than that they are hassle free. They provide some protein and some fat, so they are great for between meals.

2. Hard Boiled Eggs

This is another super easy, super nutritious choice.  I tend to just boil 6 or 7 eggs at the beginning of the week, and then just have one each day. These always fill me up and keep me nourished until my next meal.

3. Roasted Chickpeas

My current all-time favorite snack! They are perfectly crunchy and salty and incredibly easy to make. Just drizzle 2 cans of chickpeas with olive oil and whatever spices and seasonings you like and cook them for about an hour on 400F. I normally eat these on my way home from work to hold me over until dinner. They’re packed full of fiber, protein, AND healthy fats!

4. Yogurt

Yogurt is another great snack that you don’t have to put any effort into, besides the whole going to the grocery store and buying it part. My personal favorite brand is Siggi’s. It has significantly less sugar that most other brands, plus its super thick and creamy. Its packed full of protein, so it will keep you full, and maybe even satisfy your sweet tooth as well!

These are just a few of my favorite protein packed snacks. Like I said early, I always encourage snacking. If you’re hungry, you should eat! It’s just all about choosing something that will nourish your body and satisfy your hunger. What do you love snacking on?
